On the occasion of World Population Day, the ‘World Population Prospects 2022‘ report was released by the United Nations.
According to the report, today i.e. on 15 November 2022, the world’s population will cross the figure of 8 billion.
Along with this, it has been claimed in the report that in 2023 India will become the most populous country in the world. Along with this, in 2030, the global population is estimated to cross the figure of 8.5 billion.
According to the World Population Prospects 2022 report, in the coming year, India will become the most populous country in the world, leaving behind China. According to the report, the global population will increase to 8.5 billion in 2030 and 9.7 billion in 2050.
Reduction in maternal and child mortality
On this occasion, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, “This year’s World Population Day is very special, because this year we are expecting the birth of the world’s 8 billionth resident.
Describing it as a milestone, Guterres said that this occasion will be taken to celebrate our diversity, recognize humanity and for the improvement in the health sector, as a decrease in maternal and child mortality has been recorded in recent times. “
It took 12 years for the population to reach 7 to 8 billion.
According to the report, it has taken about 12 years for the global population to increase from 7 to 8 billion. Along with this, it has been estimated in the report that it will take about 15 years for the global population to reach the figure of 8 to 9 billion.
That is, in 2033 the world’s population can touch the figure of 9 billion. Also, it has been told in the report that the overall growth rate of the global population is increasing very slowly.
China and India are the most populous countries
Talking about the continent, the two most populous regions in 2022 are in Asia. East and South-East Asia with 2.3 billion people and Central and South Asia with 2.1 billion people. The population of India and China has crossed the figure of 1.4 billion.
India will be the most populous country in 2023
According to the report, by 2050, more than half of the estimated increase in the global population will be contributed by only 8 countries. These include Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines and Tanzania.
According to UN estimates, India will overtake China as the world’s most populous country in 2023.
Fertility decline in many countries
According to the United Nations report, a decline in fertility has been registered in many countries. In the year 2020, the global population growth rate has come down to less than 1%.
This is the first time since 1950 when the population is growing at the slowest rate.
